What is the difference between a Snap Shot and Artistic Photography?

 A snap shot is a quick shot taken without meaning to take photos and artistic photography is like going out and taking a photo with depth and filters.

He is a masters in Landscape photography. He brings out texture by making the photos black, gray and white. I think his work is nice and really well done but its a little boring because of the grays and blacks. The colors are so dark which makes it less interesting for me to look at.
